Outdoor Industry: Behind the Scenes
From Great Outdoor Store
We have the good fortune of being part of a group of small, independently owned outdoor shops from around the country. Recently, we did a store visit to Summit Hut in Tucson, AZ. We do these types of visits twice and year, each time to a different store across the U.S. It gives us the opportunity to see how other shops look, the product they carry and their other successes. It also gives us the chance to meet and talk about issues, best practices, new ideas and general friendship. We value these relationships deeply! They have helped us to make Great Outdoor Store what it is today and also to propel us into the future.
Personally, I hadn’t been to the desert in quite a while, so we took the opportunity to spend a couple of extra days to hike and explore the area. We just happened to be there at just the right time. The desert was in full bloom and stunningly beautiful! Tucson is in a valley surrounded by mountains and the terrain in incredibly varied--from desert to brush to alpine forest.
We had the opportunity to complete a few hikes. On one hike we explored Mount Lemon, on another we made it to the Seven Pools. The hikes were different from each other, but they certainly didn't disappoint. We saw so many amazing varieties of cactus and flowering bush. The contrast of colors was spectacular. Getting away to other parts of our county is always a welcome learning experience both for business and for the soul.
